MRS. WILLIAM GASTEN

Mrs. Maud Hill Gasten, 87, widow of William Gasten, died early Sunday at the W. R. C. Home.
Mr. and Mrs. Gasten were former residents of Norwich and at one time lived in what is now the Seymour funeral Home here in Oxford.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Merithew of White Plains, and a son, Robert Gasten of Cortland.
The body was removed to the Seymour Funeral Home in Oxford and funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Lloyd S. Charters and Rev. F. F. Haworth officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

William Gasten, 74, former resident of Oxford, passed away at the Chenango Memorial Hospital at 4 o'clock Thursday morning, April 17. Six weeks ago he sustained a serious fall in which he received a hip fracture.
Mr. Gasten was born in Brooklyn, July 3, 1866, but had been a resident of this section for more than 30 years. When he first came to Oxford he purchased the Miller property, now the Seymour Funeral Homes, and resided there until he moved to Norwich several years ago.
Mr. Gasten was considered an expert bridge player and often participated in tournaments with success. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich, the Norwich Lodge of Elks, the Norwich Club and was a former member of the Canasawacta County Club.
His active years were spent in the legal profession. He married Maude Hill, who survives him together with one daughter, Mrs. Robert Merithew of Manchester, Conn.; a son Robert Gasten of Johnson City and a grandson, Coleman Merithew of Manchester, Conn.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Seymour Funeral Home here. The Rev. L. S. Charters officiated and burial was made in Riverview cemetery. Bearers were Van Estelow, Mat Boname, Maurice Ireland and Van Burchard.
