ERWIN G. MOORE
 (1929)

Erwin G. Moore, one of Oxford's best known and highly respected citizens, died at Oxford hospital Thanksgiving morning, November 28, at 6 o'clock, following an illness of ten months.  His age was 84 years.

He was the youngest child of Lysander and Esther Wilcox Moore, the latter of Norwich, and was born in the township of McDonough March 31, 1845.

The family born to them consisted of five sons and two daughters.  Mrs. Sarah Boice of Chenango street, is now the only remaining member of that pioneer family.  She has just celebrated her 94th birthday.

On December 28, 1875, Mr. Moore was united in marriage with Miss Eliza J. Purdy of McDonough, whose death occurred June 10, 1922.

Two children were born to them, Viola G., who later became the wife of Leon L. Cowles.  Her death took place October 25, 1921.  The son, Charles L., with his wife, who was Miss Mildred Webb, survives him.

Mr. Moore's life was a busy one, while his health permitted, and was spent on the farm where he was born until he moved to this village twenty-two years ago.  During his last few years he has been tenderly cared for by his devoted son and wife.

By request, the funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Edwin R. D. Briggs, of Oneonta, a life-long friend, who also officiated at the funeral of the wife seven years ago.

Burial was made in the family plot in Riverview cemetery.  The bearers were Hon. H. C. Stratton, Fred L. Bartoo, Fred Harrington and A. J. Sherwood.

Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Everett Moore and Leon Moore of Utica; Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Skillman and Miss Lucy Skillman of Norwich; Mrs. F. A. Wilcox of Eaton; Mrs. W. E. Jones, Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Wilcox, East Masonville; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Page, Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Folk, Mrs. Constant C. Crum, Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Foote, Mr. and Mrs. V. D.
