FRANK L. ROOT
Special to The Binghamton Press

Oxford, Nov. 14 - Frank L. Root, age 26 years, an esteemed resident of Oxford, died late Friday night, after a protracted illness of nine weeks.  Mr. Root was mail carrier on rural free delivery route No.3, out of this village, and it is thought that he injured himself by jumping on his wagon one day.  His condition was not considered dangerous until within two weeks, when serious developments set in.

Mr. Root more than once declared he would get well and fight for life both heroic and pathetic.  The immediate cause of death was spinal neuritis.

Frank L. Root was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., November, 1878.  His parents were DeVilla and Anna Brown Root, old residents of Chenango county.  His parents died a an early age and he resided with Judson A. and Miss Ruth E. Root of Oxford, an uncle and aunt.

He was educated in the common schools and Albany business college.  He began life as a grocery clerk, and about three years ago was appointed mail carrier in the rural free delivery service.  Mr. Root was a member of the Baptist Church, a member of the Odd Fellows, including the encampment and Canton Nemo of Norwich and Oxford Lodge, F. A. M., of this village.  He was married last April to Miss Tillie N. Smith of South Oxford.  He is survived by his widow, his uncle and aunt and one brother, Dr. George Root of Hart, Mich.

The funeral was held this afternoon from the Baptist Church, Canton Nemo, Patriarch Militant, of Norwich, and the Masons escorting the remains.
