MRS. ELIZABETH M. MOREHOUSE
A Host of Loving Friends Deeply Deplore Her Passing
Oxford, June 11.-In the death of Mrs. Elizabeth M. Morehouse, which occurred recently, this village lost a beloved resident. Born in Clarksburg, Ky., April 6, 1845, the deceased was the youngest daughter of the late Erastus and Maria (McFarland) Briggs. She married Samuel Morehouse, passing most of her married life in Brisben, and moving to this village seven years ago. Mr. Morehouse died five years ago. She was a woman of fine sensibilities and of a quiet nature. An exemplary Christian, she was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church.
Mrs. Morehouse is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Morehouse, and a granddaughter, Miss M. Lavanchia Morehouse, of this village. Besides these she leaves three brothers, Ira E. Briggs, of Erie, Pa., Herbert A. Briggs, of Brooklyn, and Rev. Edwin R. D. Briggs, of Milford, N. Y.
The funeral services were conducted from her late home Saturday afternoon. The sermon was preached by her former pastor and friend, Rev. Charles J. Burton, of Catskill, assisted by Rev. Russell A. Gates. Three hymns were sung by Mrs. J. L. Harrison, soprano, and Mrs. S. S. Stafford, alto. The bearers were the brothers, Ira and Edwin, Ralph E. Briggs, of Owego, a nephew, and Sumner and Merton Toby, cousins, of Norwich. Burial was made in Ten Broeck Cemetery at South Oxford.
