MRS. EUNICE C. LEWIS

APRIL 1, 1908

Mrs. Eunice C. Lewis died Sunday evening, March 29, 1908, at the home of her brother, W. T. Mandeville, on south Chatham street, aged 80 years.  She came from her New England home in the fall of 1904 to make her home here.  She has been feeble for some time but her mind remained good and she was ill only a few days.  Her maiden name was Mandeville.  She was born in Coventry,
N. Y., Jan. 27, 1828.  She was married in 1850 to Henry Lewis and they moved to Connecticut where he died 22 years ago.  Mrs. Lewis made her home in New Haven until she came to Austin three years ago last fall.  She endeared herself to those who made her acquaintance here by her quiet, gentle ways and her unselfish and patient disposition.  She had a keen intellect and kept in touch with current problems as well as with the best literature.  She was a devoted member of the Congregational church for many years.  The end came very peacefully without suffering and apprehensions.  She was conscious until the last.  She leaves two brothers, W. T. Mandeville of this city and John Mandeville of Brockton, Mass.

Funeral services will be held at the Mandeville residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. F. E. Knopf officiating.  Interment in Oakwood.
