SOLOMON C. MOWRY
Solomon C. Mowry died at his home in Oxford, Jan. 26, 1886 in the 72d year of his age. He had been an invalid for several years, though some of the time quite comfortable. He was born in Oxford, Feb. 11, 1814, and became connected with the Baptist Church in 1837. Funeral Services conducted by Rev. Dr. Bradford were held at his late residence Jan. 28th.
Mr. Morwy was a man of genuine uprightness and integrity of character, and of untiring energy and perseverance. He was a man of strong convictions, and nothing could move him from his purpose if he had once decided it to be right. When in health, he had great physical strength and endurance, and was thoroughly temperate in every respect. His industry was remarkable; even with age and infirmity, he was always busy, and yet living in the expectation of a summons to call him home. Ready for either life or death, he was cheerful and happy - carrying sunshine wherever he went. His hand was open to all in need, and his greatest happiness was in doing everything in his power for his family and friends. As a citizen he was honored and respected. Being deliberate and careful in judgment, he was a trustworthy neighbor and friend. He had a keen sense of motives of people, and was seldom deceived by any attempted wrong. His loss will be deeply felt in the Church with which he was connected. All worthy objects of benevolence found in him a friend, and for the support of the Church he gave liberally.
His family and those who knew him best, will most keenly feel his loss. There is consolation in the thought that their loss is his gain, and there will soon be a happy reunion.
Thus a life ripe in age, ripe in usefulness, ripe in christian experience, and rich in the hope of a glorious immortality, has ended here and began in a land of rest, where free from care, pain and sorrow, there is joy complete and without end.
