LOVONIA MAY LAMB
Sad Death of a Young girl Who Had Many Friends in Norwich.
Norwich, March 6.-As a result of a dose of poison Miss Lovonia May Lamb, aged 16 years, died at her boarding place on Clinton street Friday night of last week. Saturday, February 22, Dr. Wilcox was called to attend the girl and learned that she had taken two seven and one half grain tablets of corrosive sublimate. By prompt action the patient's life was saved for the time being, but a portion of the deadly poison had been absorbed by the system and her death finally resulted a week later. An autopsy performed by Coroner Wilcox, assisted by Dr. Manley, showed that death was due to the above cause.
Miss Lamb had lived in Norwich about two and one-half years and had worked for several families here. For the past few months she had been employed at the silk mill. Her reason for taking the fatal does as admitted to the doctor was that she wanted to make her love feel badly, she being jealous, it is said, because he had taken another girl to the skating rink.
The remains were taken to the home of the girl's mother, Mrs. Effie Cummings, in Oxford, where the funeral was held Monday afternoon, Rev. R. A. Gates officiating. Among the floral offerings were a wreath from the silk mill employees and flowers from her sweetheart.
Besides her mother deceased is survived by her father, Harvey Lamb of McDonough, and three brothers and a sister residing with their mother in Oxford.
