MRS. LELAND ROOT

Sudden Death of Well Known Lady, Resident of this Village for Many Years
(1926)

   Mrs. Katie E. Root, wife of Leland Root, died on Friday morning, May 28, at the Oxford hospital after a short illness with paralysis.  Mrs. Root had been in poor health for some time although her condition had not been considered critical until last Sunday when she was removed to the hospital.  Previous to that she had been helping on the mail route during the illness of her husband.

   Mrs. Root was the daughter of Jerome and Harriet Nevins Dalton of Coventry and was born in that village on June 16, 1878.  On November 2, 1904 she was united in marriage with Leland H. Root and they have resided ever since at their home on Midland street.  Mr. Root serving as mail carrier on route 4 from the local office.

   Mrs. Root was of a quiet, retiring nature, whose home was first in her life and to its interest she was most devoted.

   Surviving is the husband, her parents, a sister, Mrs. L. E. Dunning of Norwich, and three brothers, Alvin Dalton of Coventry, Oriel Dalton of Sidney Center and Erwin Dalton of Cortland.

   The funeral was held at the home on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. A. Norman Janes, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, officiating.  Burial in Riverview cemetery.
