MRS. A. W. POWERS

Passed Away Monday Night After Long Illness
(Nov. 16, 1914)

Emily, widow of Alanson Wilson Powers, died Monday night at the home of George Strawn.  She had been in a feeble condition for several months.

Mrs. Powers was the daughter of Hiram and Laura Bates Bartoo, of Greene, and was born in Brisbin, in the house now occupied by Dr. Burgess, in September, 1831.  In 1850 she married Mr. Powers, who died in June, 1907.  Mrs. Powers came from an old and substantial family, and among
her neighbors her hospitality and good works were proverbial.  She was a life long member of the Baptist church, having joined the church at Brisbin in her youth.

Since her husband's death in 1907, Mrs. Powers has made her home with her daughter, Miss Minnie Powers, of Richmond Hill, and for the past few years with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jessie Powers, on Albany street.  In the past year she had gradually failed, until death came.

Mrs. Powers is survived by one daughter, Miss Minnie Powers.  Her son, Myron E. Powers, died in 1900.  She is also survived by three brothers, Eli Bartoon, of Greene, Jesse Bartoo, of Binghamton, and William Bartoo, of Winfield.

The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Jessie Powers.  The service will be conducted by Rev. Inman L. Willcox, a life long friend, assisted by Rev. Russell A. Gates.  Interment in Riverview.
