MARY ELIZABETH MEAD

With the death of Mary Elizabeth Mead at her home on Mechanic street January 16, 1919, passes another of Oxford's oldest citizens.  Miss Mead was born on the home farm, East of the village, October 10, 1835 and had well passed the 83d mile stone of her life's journey.  She was the daughter of Andrew and Lydia Dickinson Mead.  After the completion of her education in the Oxford Academy she taught school for a short time and then moved into the house on Mechanic street where she has since resided.

Her life has been a quiet one, as she took but little part in the activities of her native village.  But her friends were staunch and true as was exemplified in the many acts of kindness and solace extended to her and her house during her last days.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Joseph Hull, and three cousins residing in Oxford, George P. Mead, Sackett Mead and Miss Polly Ann Mead.

She was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal church, from which her funeral was held on Saturday.  Burial in the family lot in Riverview cemetery.
