MRS. SARAH LOOMIS LEWIS
(1931)

   Mrs. Sarah Loomis Lewis, widow of the late Arvine S. Lewis, died at her home on Clinton street Sunday, January 4, aged 84 years.  Mrs. Lewis had been in ill health for some time suffering from heart trouble and other complications.

   She was the daughter of Beniah and Sarah Hamilton Loomis and was born in Smithville February 17, 1846, and was married in Smithville November 23, 1864 to Arvine S. Lewis of this village.  Mrs. Lewis had lived in Oxford for 60 years and in the home where she died for 50 years.  Her husband died November 5, 1907.

   Mrs. Lewis was a communicant of St. Paul's episcopal church and a member of the Parish Aid Society and a charter member of the Ladies Village Improvement Society.

   She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Maude L. Smith; a sister, Mrs. C. L. Webb, and a brother, Edward B. Loomis, of this village and a niece, Mrs. R. C. French, of Tyner.

   The funeral was held at her late residence, Wednesday afternoon, Jan 7, at 2 o'clock with the Rev. H. C. Whedon, rector of St. Paul's church officiating.  Burial was made in Riverview cemetery.
