W. S. MANNING

To the Memory of W. S. Manning, of Coventry, who Died Oct. 14th, 1876

Only crossed the chilling river,
No more sorry, no more care,
No more struggling 'mid the billows,
Resting, joyful, 'over there,'
Shall we mourn the loved and loving,
When his voice in death is hushed
'Twas our Heavenly Father called him,
And His ways are ever just.

Though all earthly ties are riven,
Yet our Jesus knoweth best;
Only called from earth to Heaven,
Called the weary home to rest,
Joyful rest, in realms of glory,
No more shadows, no more night,
Drinking from the 'er still waters,
Robed in garments, snowy white.

Brightest gleams of hope undying
Light the pathway to the tomb
'Over there' are joys immortal;
Loved ones beckoning us to come,
O 'tis hard these ties to sever,
Sad to see our loved one die,
But in that home beyond the river,
We shall meet him by and by.

Jesus will sustain and cheer us,
As we breast the swelling tide,
Angel choirs will sing our welcome,
Over on the other side,
Loved ones yes we hope to greet you,
When life's pilgrimage, is o'er,
Words of Heavenly comfort cheer us,
They're not lost, 'but gone before.
