David C. Mayo
(Feb. 14, 1931)

   David C. Mayo, age 45, died Saturday afternoon at about 3 o'clock at the Oxford Hospital after a serious illness of two weeks from infections resulting from an attack of colitis, which he suffered just before Christmas.

   Mr. Mayo was born near Susquehanna April 17, 1885, the son of David S. and Isabelle Snyder Mayo.  He lived there until he was 15 years old when he came to Oxford.  For a short time, he worked in the Basket factory and in the local Borden plant and while employed at the latter place, he learned the barber's trade from Charles Rivers.

   This profession he followed for 27 years, the greater part of which was spent in Oxford.  He worked on several occasions in various shops in Norwich.  He started the shop now owned by his son, Cyril, in the Navy Island Block, thirteen years ago.

   Mr. Mayo was a member of the Sappho Hose Company.

   He was united in marriage Feb. 12, 1903 to Zada C. Walker of this village and to them born one son, Cyril.

   Besides his wife and son mentioned he is survived by two granddaughters, Marguerite and Lucille Mayo, of Oxford; his father, David S. of Hickory Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Hibeck and Mrs. Cora Moore of Binghamton; one adopted sister, Mrs. Tillie Barnhart of Binghamton and two brothers, Fred and William of Binghamton.

   The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home on Taylor street and at 2 o'clock from St. Paul's church.  The Rev. H. C. Whedon officiated.  Burial was made in Riverview cemetery.

   Amond those from out of town attending the funeral were:  Mrs. Charlotte Hibeck and daughter, Marjorie, Mrs. Cora Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Skinner, Mrs. Tillie Barnhart and son, William, Fred Mayo, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Truman and Mrs. Sarah Walker of Binghamton; Mrs. Pearl O'Malley of Hornell; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bodley of Harpursville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lucas and Nelson Bodley of Sherburne; Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Kenyon and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Gibbs of Norwich and Mrs. Linn Fagan of Bainbridge.
