THE GOLDEN WEDDING
OF MR. AND MRS. EDGAR WATERS MOST PLEASANTLY OBSERVED
Saturday, March 18, 1916, marked the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Waters of Greene street. They were married in this village in the old McAlpin house on Albany street, only one guest survives who was present at that time, Edwin Walker of New Berlin, brother of the bridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Waters received their neighbors and friends and accepted their congratulations from two till five o'clock. The guests were welcomed and presented to the bride and groom by their daughter, Mrs. F. C. Bartlett, of Norwich. Congratulations and best wishes were numerous and during the pleasant hours of the afternoon, the time was spent in conversation and reminiscences.
The parlor was prettily decorated with daffodils and smilax. Delicious refreshments were served, Mrs. J. S. Tracy escorting the guests to the dining room where the decorations were white carnations, ferns and smilax. Mrs. James Morgan poured tea and Mrs. Waldron Harrington, assisted by Miss Gertrude Bartlett and Miss Mildred Sauter of Norwich, Miss Dorothy Tyler of Johnson City and Miss Helen Wilcox of Binghamton, served salad, sandwiches, bride's cake and wafers.
Mrs. and Mrs. Waters received a substantial purse of gold, a Victrola, and many beautiful gifts of china, silver and cut glass. About fifty friends were present and found the occasion of great enjoyment, and the host and hostess were greatly pleased and touched by the expressions of good will and affection which they received and the assurances of the respect and esteem in which they are held by their friends and neighbors. Among those present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Tyler, Miss Dorothy and Master Howard Tyler of Johnson City, Mrs. F. C. Bartlett and daughter Gertrude, and Miss Mildred Sauter of Norwich and Miss Helen Willcox of Binghamton.
