Orla Grace Brown Loomis
Oxford Woman Dies At 84
(1961)

   Orla Grace Brown Loomis, 84, of 20 North Washington Avenue, Oxford, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Bida Nursing Home.

   She was born December 24, 1876 in Smithville, daughter of Edwin and Ulysses Brown and attended school in Smithville and Oxford.  In September, 1904, she married Millard C. Loomis, a former Chenango County district attorney, who died April 9, 1935.  Mrs. Loomis had taught school in Tyner prior to her marriage.  She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

   Surviving are two sons, Lynn B. of Oxford and Edwin F. Loomis of Syracuse; five grandchildren, Susan J. and James M. Loomis of Oxford, and Diane B., Terry F. and Lynne E. Loomis of Syracuse; a cousin, Mrs. Frank Ireland of Norwich.  A daughter, Dorothy, died in 1913.

   A prayer service was held Tuesday, July 25 at 10 a.m. at the North Washington Avenue home, followed by services in St. Paul's Church at 10:30, the Rev. George Dutton officiating.  Burial was made in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.  Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Robert J. Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich.
