Mrs. Orange Hotchkiss
(1928)

   Mrs. Delett C. Hotchkiss, wife of Orange Hotchkiss, died at her home on the Oxford-McDonough road near the village, Wednesday evening, February 8, after an illness of over a year.  For the past five weeks she has been confined to her bed.

   Mrs. Hotchkiss was born in McDonough, March 14, 1857, and was the daughter of Mason Sumner and Celia Ann Steere Gale.  On December 22, 1875, she was united in marriage to Orange Hotchkiss, the first of their married life was spent in Guilford, afterward moving to Smithville Center.  Fourteen years ago they came to Oxford to live.

   Surviving is the husband and one son, Guy C. Hotchkiss, who lives at home, three sisters, Mrs. Henry Adams of Oxford, Mrs. Charrena Walker and Mrs. Josephine Tillotson of Tyner; three brothers, Gurdon Gale of Oxford, Laverne Gale of Kansas City and Byron Gale of Chenango Bridge.  A sister, Mrs. Lucina White, died in Oxford six years ago.

   The funeral will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon, February 11; at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. John M. Chambers, pastor of the Congregational officiating.  Burial in Riverview.
