A Noble Christian Life Closed Saturday Afternoon
The death of Miss Ruth Eliza Root occurred Saturday afternoon at her home on Scott street, after an illness of several weeks. Death was caused by an abcess.
Miss Root was born in the town of Oxford and lacked a few days of being 72 years of age. She was the daughter of Samuel and Esther Lewis Root. She had lived in the vicinity of Oxford almost her entire life, and for the past thirteen years had resided in the village with her brother, Judson A. Root.
Miss Root was a member of the Baptist church for over fifty years and led a devoted Christian life. She was always doing good and practicing self denial. For only a few years she had been limited in her activities, but always breathed the spirit of helpfulness.
She is survived by one brother, Judson A. Root of Oxford, two sisters, Mrs. A. A. Skinner of Endicott and Mrs. A. B. Ireland of Norwich.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the house, Rev. R. A. Gates officiating. Interment was made in Riverview cemetery.
