LUCIUS ADELBERT PECK
L. Adelbert Peck of this village died at his winter home in Georgiana,
Fla., Thursday morning, December 9, 1915.
He had been in ill health for many years, twenty-eight winters of which
had been spent in the South. As usual
expecting improvement, he, with an old friend, Mr. George Rogers of Binghamton,
N. Y., started for Florida on November 15th. He contracted a cold which developed into
congestion of the lungs, and this with heart trouble caused his death.
Lucius Adelbert Peck was born in Smithville Flats, Sept. 7, 1844, the
only child of Samuel and Sarah (McIntosh) Peck.
In his early manhood he taught school, but later learned the trade of a
mason and worked at it most successfully until ill health prevented. His early years were spent in Greene and
vicinity and for several years he resided in Binghamton, N. Y. Later he made his home with his uncle, Daniel
Peck and aunt, Caroline Peck, well known and highly respected citizens of
Greene. After their decease he resided
at the home of his cousin, Mrs. Clara Brown, of Greene.
He has surviving him a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Day, and two grandchildren,
Miss Helen and Master Denman Day, of Binghamton.
Mr. Peck was a member of Eastern Light Lodge F. & A. M. of this
village. He was a man who stood high in
the esteem of the various communities in which he resided. He was a devout follower of Christ, a member
of the Central Baptist Church of Greene, and for several years, one of its
trustees. His many friends greatly mourn
his loss.
The funeral was held at the Baptist Church last Wednesday at two o’clock
in the afternoon. Rev. W. S. Warren
officiated, preaching from the words, “There is but a step between me and
death.” The burial was in Sylvan
Lawn. The bearers were William H. Hayes,
Ralph Hayes, Morgan L. Rogers, Devillo L. Crandall, Walter D. Lyon, Russell T.
Goff.
