DEATH OF RICHARD YOUNGS
(Jan. 23, 1911)
Old Resident Passed Away Monday Night After Short Illness
Richard Youngs died at his home on Clinton Street at 8:10 o'clock Monday evening, after a short illness. Mr. Youngs had been in declining health for several years, having valvular heart trouble. Saturday he worked outside and it is thought that he caught a little cold. Sunday he was confined to his bed and became very sick, from which he never rallied.
Mr. Youngs was born in the town of Oxford December 11, 1836, and had always resided here. He worked for many years in the old hoe factory, and later began a clerkship with Cyrus M. Brown, the hatter, in the Van Wagenen block, which continued after the business was sold to F. E. Billings. Mr. Youngs has been more or less retired, from business for twenty-five years, except for a short time that he worked a stone quarry.
Mr. Youngs was married twice. His first wife was Rachel J. Young, who was in the millinery business here, and their marriage occurred in 1859. She died in 1878. He was again married to Mary E. Houk September 13, 1885, who died October 27, 1908.
He is survived by one brother, Edward Youngs of Oxford, and one sister, Sarah, wife of William H. Davy of Unadilla.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the house and will be in charge of Rev. C. D. Broughton. Interment will be made at Riverview.
