Mrs. Jonathan D. Rogers
(June 30, 1909)

   Mrs. Jonathan D. Rogers died at the home of her son, J. Dever Rogers, on Mechanic street, Saturday, June 26.  Mrs. Rogers' maiden name was Rachel Mapes, the daughter of Erastus and Kate Mapes, of Scio, Allegany, Co., where she was born September 21, 1838.  She was married to Jonathan D. Rogers of Preston, February 17, 1863.  She is survived by her son, J. Dever Rogers, his grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Emeline Elliott, and one brother, Lyman Mapes, both of whom reside in Allegany county.  She is also survived by two children by a former wife of her husband, and several grandchildren.  She was the last of her husband's family, including brothers, sisters and wives, twenty-one in all.  Mr. Rogers died May 30, 1904.  She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, but had always been a Seventh Day Baptist, until coming here to live.  The funeral was held Monday afternoon, Rev. Frederick A. Lendrum officiating.  Interment was made in the Rogers Street cemetery, Preston.
