Mr. and Mrs. Julius Wheeler

ANOTHER GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr. and Mrs. Julius Wheeler Celebrated Their 50th Anniversary Monday

On Monday occurred the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Wheeler, which was fittingly celebrated at their home on Mechanic street.  In the past months there have been three golden weddings celebrated in the town.  Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Willoughby, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wheeler and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Wheeler, who have resided near one another and been friends and neighbors all these years.

It was on February 26, 1862, when Julius Wheeler and Miss Narcissa Mowry, daughter of Andrew Mowry, were united in marriage by Rev. W. T. Potter, pastor of the Baptist church in this village.  Andrew Mowry resided on the farm now occupied by his son, Washington Mowry.

For 50 years they have resided in the town of Oxford, and occupied a farm on East Hill, until within a year when they removed to their present residence on Mechanic street.

Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler have one daughter, Elnora, wife of Ward Padgett, who was present, but there were also present their grand children, Linn W. Padgett and Minnie Padgett, wife of Arthur Smith; and one great grandchild, Marion Smith.

There were present between 60 and 70 guests who arrived early in the day, which was occupied with the most informed sociability.  Among the out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Carrington of Auburn, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Wheeler and Mrs and Mrs. B. A. Fleming of Guilford, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Hitchman and Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Seeley of Norwich.

Telegrams of congratulations were received from S. R. Bucklin of Providence, R. I., and W. B. Wheeler of Forth Worth, Texas.  Letters of regret were received from Mr. and Mrs. s. R. Bucklin of Pawtucket, R. I., Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gilbert of Woonsocket, R. I., Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Wheeler of Lisle, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Carrington of Auburn, Mrs. Nancy Clark of Lyons Falls, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Wheeler of Binghamton and Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Mowry of Whoodhull, and from Ira Mowry, who is recovering from and operation in St. Luke's hospital in Utica.

Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler were the recipients of some beautiful presents among which were a colonial set of four pieces and elegant oak Morris chair and a gold piece.

There were present Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wheeler and Washington Mowry, who attended the wedding 50 years ago, the latter being a boy about three years old at the time.

The Times joins in the congratulations of Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler and hopes to record many more anniversaries of their married life.
