Death of Wm. P. Buckley and Mrs. John Wiley
OBITUARY

(August 23, 1905)

The death of William P. Buckley occurred at his home on State street early Wednesday morning, after a painful illness of two weeks duration.

Funeral services were held at the house this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Charles Kramer of Nicholson, Pa.  Interment was made in Riverview cemetery.

Mr. Buckley was a native of Smithville, his parents being Jacob and Clarinda Hastings Buckley.  He was born Oct. 2, 1838, and received his education at Oxford Academy, after which he taught district school before taking up his work as contractor and builder, in which he was well known through many large contacts in this section.  Among his successful undertakings were the Norwich union school building, the Firemen's Hall in Greene, and two of the state W. R. C. Home buildings, and many handsome residences.  During the past winter, he had charge of some of the interior finishing on the new Kilmer building at Binghamton.  He was honest in character, and his firm integrity in adhering to contracts lost him money on some occasions where he had figured too closely.  He was a member of Oxford Lodge, A. O. U. W.

Mr. Buckley was married in 1865 to Ruth A. Bartle, to whom one son was born, J. Burr Buckley who resided in Brooklyn.  Mrs. Buckley died in August, 1892.  Mr. Buckley's second wife was Mrs. Helen Lewis Brown who survives him.  There also survive two sisters, Mrs. J. P. Davis and Mrs. Mary Warn, both of this village.
