DIED IN SIDNEY
Former Resident of Smithville Passed Away July 4th
The funeral of Eli T. Ketcham, for 23 years a highly respected resident of this village, was held from his home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. William Barnfather officiating. Interment was in Prospect Hill cemetery. A large attendance and the collection of beautiful floral pieces and bouquets of choice blossoms were but mute testimony of the affectionate esteem in which he was held by all.
Mr. Ketcham's death occurred July 4, after an illness of about five weeks of heart trouble. A sad feature in connection with the death of this much beloved husband and father, was the fact that his death occurred on the day of the 50th anniversary of his marriage to Miss Nancy Lewis of White Store, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lewis, who came to this country from England when Mrs. Ketcham was but a girl of 14. Mr. Ketcham was born at Smithville, and was one of the ten children of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Ketcham and is the last one of the family. He came to Sidney from White Store and for many years worked at his trade of stone mason. Had he lived until the 25th of the present month, Mr. Ketcham would have been 73 years of age and up to the time of his last illness, was physically and mentally alert for one of his years, also a kind and appreciative neighbor and a man who will be missed for his many good qualities.
Besides the faithful wife of many years, Mr. Ketcham is survived by the following children: Mrs. W. L. Church of Oxford; Miss Grace Ketcham of Sidney; Mrs. Martha Cone of Jamestown; Mrs. E. L. Van Tassell, Louis and Egbert Ketcham of Sidney.--Sidney Enterprise.
